The Lake Highlands Women's League was founded in 1969 to unite and promote the Lake Highlands area through service to the community by civic, educational, and charitable programs.
The Lake Highlands Junior Women's League is an auxiliary of the LHWL.
The Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League began when two young women, who grew up in Lake Highlands, decided there was a need in the neighborhood for a group that would capitalize on the energy and talents of young women in the neighborhood. The goal was to create a social organization in order for the young women to establish roots and relationships in the neighborhood, while at the same time having a positive impact on the community. We are very proud to be the junior group of the Lake Highlands Women’s League. In five short years, we have been able to accomplish things we couldn’t have imagined and without their help and guidance they wouldn’t have been possible.
A steering committee was formed by six young women, all graduates of Lake Highlands High School spanning from 1989-1997. In November 2004, 85 charter members held the first general meeting and represented what is now LHJWL. In April 2005, we held our first annual "Run the Highlands" 5K Run and 1 Mile Family Walk. We currently have 125 members and have raised well over $200K for the Lake Highlands North Rec Center and Park in the last 6 years.
